You may have covered this one already. The Aztecs were a big part of the GLOBAL TAPESTRY SECTION 1.4. But, they are also a LAND BASED EMPIRE. I get the irony that they are centered on an island in a lake which technically makes them a MARITIME EMPIRE since they had to go over water to reach their empire…so whatever. But, the Aztecs controlled Central Mexico and their capital of Tenochtitlan was one of the largest in the world. It even amazed the Spanish Conquistadors who had been to Rome, Madrid, and Paris. In the GLOBAL TAPESTRY unit, you probably got the basics of Aztec life. This means where they came from, who they were, religion, labor systems, chinampas… But, for this section; we need to focus on their downfall. This means that we are overlapping with the SPANISH EMPIRE in a major way. In my class, we will cover most of that in the MARITIME EMPIRES unit, but maybe you want more of an Aztec perspective on the whole deal. So, below are the Aztecs:
