When you think of the massive population boom of the Contemporary Period (we went from 1 BILLION to 8 BILLION); the most distinguishing feature of that population growth is the impact of modern medicine. We’ve only cured TWO diseases… ever. So, the fight and prevention of diseases worldwide is truly a Contemporary Period thing. The College Board wants you to focus on the different kinds of diseases or disease outbreaks (see the maps below). Now that we’ve all experienced a global pandemic, you should have a greater appreciation of 9.2.
