Not everyone loves these new large empires. In fact, some people are even going to CHALLENGE these empires. They will do it socially, politically, and economically. I love a good rebellion. The College Board gives you a nice mix of challenges from slave revolts, native american revolts, religious revolts… Louis XIV’s kid’s even tried to overthrow him. I included all of the “illustrative examples” on the map and people to know below. You really need to focus on a couple of these movements and keep them in your back pocket in case you need to use them on an essay. THESE are the CHALLENGERS!

5. Some were successful (Marathas, Nanny) and others were failures (Metacom, Pugachev).
